Two former USC forwards, Dewayne Dedmon and Renaldo Woolridge, had the opportunity to attend pre-draft workouts with the Los Angeles Lakers this summer.

Dedmon auditioned with the Lakers on June 13. He left USC after averaging 6.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as a junior. Most mock drafts have Dedmon slotted in the late second round, and the Lakers currently hold the No. 48 overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft.

Woolridge, the son of former Laker Orlando Woolridge, spent Monday in the Lakers’ facility. Woolridge averaged only 5.3 minutes in his one season at USC after transferring from Tennessee, but his size, 6-foot-9, and athleticism could earn him a summer league invitation.

USC and the Lakers have long enjoyed a strong relationship off the court.

Former owner Jerry Buss earned his PhD in physical chemistry from USC, turning down scholarship offers from Harvard and Yale, according to his daughter, Jeanie, in her book Laker Girl. He then insisted on hiring members of the Trojan Marching Band to staff the Lakers Band. Buss also sent Jeanie, who is now the Lakers’ Executive Vice President, to USC.

In the Chick Hearn Press Room, it is not uncommon to see USC Professor J.A. Adande conversing with USC Annenberg alumni including former Daily Trojan and current ESPN writer Arash Markazi.
